Ethnologue : languages of Africa and Europe
Ethnologue is the comprehensive reference work that catalogs all the known living languages in the world today. It has been an active research project for more than 60 years. Thousands of linguists and other researchers all over the world rely on and have contributed to the Ethnologue. It is widely regarded to be the most comprehensive listing of information of its kind.
Ethnologue is published in three volumes. Each volume is self-contained so can be used independently. This volume catalogs the languages of Africa and Europe. It includes:

• 17,919 primary names, alternate names, and dialect names
• 103 country overviews with graphical language vitality profiles
• 74 color maps showing location and distribution of languages
• Unique three-letter identifier for each language from the International Standard ISO 639-3
• Assessment for every language of level of development versus endangerment using EGIDS with a color language status profile graph for every country
• Statistical summaries with numerical tabulations of living languages and number of speakers by continent, by language status, by language size, by language family, and by country
