Multilingual education with minority languages: selected achievements = Enseñanza plurilingüe con lenguas minorizadas : algunos logros

The main aim of this article is to highlight selected achievements of multilingual education with minority languages. Three studies and one long-term project dealing with minority language education are discussed for this purpose. First, the results of two studies focusing on language learning within a context of early immersion in Basque will be analysed. Second, the article presents preliminary findings from an ongoing research project conducted by the ELEBILAB team on the representation of plurilingualism among pre-school teachers in high-diversity schools in the Basque Country. Finally, the article discusses the achievements of a linguistic cooperation project for training, consultation, and accompaniment of language standardization policies with the Nasa Yuwe community in Colombia. This long-term project was initiated in 2012 with the cooperation of two Basque institutions, the Garabide Association, and the UNESCO Chair of World Linguistic Heritage of the UPV/EHU. By reviewing research on minority language education across diverse contexts, the article identifies several achievements of multilingual education, including the enforcement of linguistic rights, advances in language learning and didactic innovation, and socio-educational progress in social inclusion, parental/family engagement, and the promotion of positive attitudes and sensitivities towards linguistic and cultural diversity within the educational community.
